Indian Agents tied to Nijjar's murder, Says Canadian Minister

Canadian Foreign Minister links Indian agents to Nijjar's killing

Canada's Foreign Minister, Melanie Joly, reaffirmed accusations that Indian agents were involved in the killing of Hardeep Singh Nijjar, a pro-Khalistan figure, on Canadian soil. This statement was made despite India's dismissal of the allegations as "absurd" and "motivated."

Canada stands by accusations

Joly emphasized Canada's duty to protect its citizens and maintained the position that a Canadian was killed by Indian agents. Her remarks came amidst the arrest of three Indian nationals suspected of involvement in the murder.

On the other hand, India's High Commissioner to Ottawa, Sanjay Kumar Verma, highlighted concerns about threats originating from pro-Khalistan elements in Canada. He underscored the significance of national security and identified Canadian citizens as the primary source of these threats. Verma expressed dismay at Canada's apparent disregard for India's concerns.

Despite differences between the governments, Verma acknowledged ongoing discussions at diplomatic levels to address the issues of concern. He emphasized the importance of diplomatic channels and private dialogue in resolving disputes.

Dispelling misinformation and misinterpretations

Meanwhile, Canada's Minister of Emergency Preparedness, Harjit Sajjan, addressed inaccuracies surrounding a reported incident where India allegedly refused to allow a flight carrying him and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to land in Punjab in 2018. Sajjan clarified that the meeting with then Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh did take place in Amritsar, contrary to the earlier report.

Sajjan also highlighted the importance of addressing misinformation and disinformation, noting the Canadian government's commitment to taking allegations seriously while upholding the right to peaceful expression of viewpoints by individuals of any origin.

In summary, the diplomatic tensions between Canada and India persist as both countries grapple with differing perspectives on sensitive issues. While accusations and concerns are exchanged, efforts are underway to maintain diplomatic dialogue and address misinformation.
